If you were walking in the savannah in Africa, you ought to look out for Rhinos because they're more volatile and prone to attacking people.. Elelphants on the other had are the only land animal that can rip a car open to get to a person inside.
Both animals normally keep out of each other's way and both mothers would only attack to protect their babies.
Lone bull elephants however, or young males which have grown up as orphans have been known to be delinquent and harass other animals and even kill them. This happens in elephants. Rhinos are not known to take on elephants out of boredom.
In defence, a rhino could gore an elephant with his horn but it's just made up of toughened hair. A bull elephant has got tusks and an trunk and lot of weight on his side.
So statistically, the elephants would win.

Rhinos move out of the way when elephants are near. I'm sure a big, angry bull elephant would win..

They showed a fight once between the two on Animal Planet, I can't remember who won but I want to say the rhino.

One of the leading cause of rhino death are young male elephants. Wildlife managers have learn to not cull the older males as to keep the young males in check so they don't kill the rhinos.

THE ELEPHANT! I WATCHED A PROGRAM ABOUT THIS ON ANIMAL PLANET--YOUNG MALE ELEPHANTS WERE KILLING THE RHINOS! IT STOPPED AFTER THEY PUT BIG-OLDER BULLS WITH THE KIDS TO TEACH THEM SOME MANNERS!!

I would say the rhino, because its horn is made for stabbing. Also, it's built for speed. And I think the real winner would be us, because that would be one hell of a fight to witness.
