Sometimes they have to close because of power outages, gas leaks, remodeling. I am friends with a woman that owns one. And she did shut down for a few days when her husband died.

I used to work part-time for 7/11, so here's the truth.

When the company first opened the stores, the name came from the hours that the store was open. They opened at 7AM and closed at 11PM. Therefore, the original stores all came with locks on them.

Nowadays, if there is a power outage in the store, the clerks are to usher all customers out and lock the doors to protect the goods in the store. Additionally, if there is a robbery the clerks are to lock the doors AFTER the bad guy is gone to preserve the store for the police and to prevent the bad guy from re-entering.

I just answered a question similar to this. I think it's just a standard door. It comes with a lock. It has nothing to do with the function of the store. Plus how can the robbers hold people hostage if there are no locks.( Bad joke)

well i do think its a standard kind of thing, in case they ever NEEDED to close.

but the real reason (what i was told anyway) is that way back when, 7-11 used to be open from 7am to 11pm... therefore, being closed between 11:01pm to 6:59am.

come on thats 10 pts worthy!
