because earlier today one of my hamsters looked and sounded like she had the hiccups

Hi there...absolutely! All mammals can get hiccups because it is an involuntary spasm of the diaphragm; typically this repeats several times a minute.

Yes they can. Most animals, including humans, can get the hiccups.
Do not try to scare it to stop the hiccups, that it just plain mean. Leave it alone and it should calm down.

uh...i think the only way a hamster can get the hiccups is if you're trippin on acid, or something...
