I reconnected 2 ceiling mounted light fixtures that are controlled (on/off) at 3 separate locations - 3 different switches. I am getting no power - no nothing! What did I do wrong? I reconnected every wire(s) as they were when I disconnected them! The circuit is open somewhere I guess.

The first answerer is correct. there are different wiring combos. basically the power in will be on the common or black terminal of one of the 3 ways and the wire to your lights will land on the other. If you don't have a good understanding of the concept it can be very hard. Answerer 3....wrong, you can only have 2 3 ways all others must be 4 ways.

Check to make sure all three switches are identical and that the wires are connected to the same posts (screw) on each of the three switches. If all appears to be the same at each position, check the bulbs to make sure they are good. If still no clue, then one or more switches may be bad. Check the functions of each switch with an ohm meter and annotate the results. If one switch needs to be replaced, replace them all, this is so all are wired internally the same, it makes it easier to install them. It has been my experience that not all switches from a manufacturer are the same internally. I have had variations in wiring between lots even though they were made by the same manufacturer and appeared to be identical externally.

in all honesty, you need to have an electrician do this - unless you know someone who KNOWS what they are doing. what you have is 2, 3-way switches with a 4-way in between, and if one wire is mis connected - nothing will work. not including the grounds you have 16 connection points and if they arent all correct you sit in the dark. it's far too difficult to explain 3-ways and 4-ways on here in a manner a layman will understand so i'm not going to bother trying, nor will i be responsible for several fire trucks parked outside your house because something went really wrong - it just aint worth it.

thats the best answer to your question...

Check out the following web site. It has a wiring diagram and instructions on how the circuit should be wired. You might find out where you went wrong... Good Luck... http://www.handymanwire.com/articles/3wayswitch.htm

I'm guessing... that you are working on a 3way/4way system. Hubby has seen 20 year journeyman electricians screw these things up horribly so you aren't in this alone.

Suggestion is to blow $60 on a one hour service call from a qualified electrician. Sucks I know, but it would save you in the long run some larger electrical problems.

My hubby, who is a damn good electrician when it comes to control circuits and switching said "WTF?!?!?!?!"

check the breaker or fuse. re check your switches, a wire may have come loose. or you may have re-connected something wrong.
