The party of the GOP is not the same as party of Lincoln. The moderates are no longer accepted in the party. The religious right has now taken control of the party since the late 1970's.
They call themselves the party of the big tent but to be in the tent you must be pro gun, pro capital punishment, anti gay, anti environment, pro big business, favor tax cuts for the rich, oppose the minimum wage and the list goes on.

Do you actual think of people interior the south choose for the "south to upward push lower back" and re-institute slavery? a job is freedom. A welfare verify is slavery. Democrats unapologetically bypass after vast company, who we rely on for our jobs! this is why THIS working guy isn't a democrat. Oh and by potential of ways, i'm from the north. i've got been to the south, and the nicest people interior the country stay there. you go with for to make sure racial disharmony, bypass to Boston or NYC the place they nevertheless have segregated neighborhoods. you do no longer see numerous that interior the south.

No it isn't. You have to keep in mind that back in Lincoln's day, politicians on all sides of the aisle cared about serving the people rather than their own interests. I don't see, in the modern GOP, the party that fought to abolish slavery (it was actually formed here in Michigan as a result of a strong abolitionist movement), the party that produced such strong leaders as Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, etc. Instead, I see a bunch of politicians running after their own power and to blazes with the rest of the country.

Gee, I don't know, I wasn't around when Lincoln was. I know the GOP isn't about to free Black slaves or keep the union together.

Not at all. The Republican party was fairly new at the time of Lincoln and consisted mostly of liberals from the north that promoted federalism. The Democrats were considered conservative back then and promoted states rights. Today its just the opposite.
Hey Andy down below me there: You must have slept through your US history classes! I see that you signed on to your other yahoo account to give yourself a thumbs up rating......You have no understanding how much politics have changed in 150 years, do you?

Nope things are the same because the republicans fight for what is right and not what is popular. It was the democrats that wanted slavery and the same party the formed the klan. Today the republicans fight the same hatred as they did during the civil war. To say it was changed is a narrow attempt to claim that the democrats fought for justice when in fact they fought to keep certain people down. It again happened in the 1960's when again the republicans fought for civil rights and the democrats opposed it. So nothing has changed

polar opposites. The 1860's republicans were all about real freedom and being honest with the people. They were big fans of personal freedoms, but only allowed states what they were allowed under the constitution.
modern republicans seem to be against personal freedoms, rights, and the US constitution. they also allow states to run amuck with things that are typically the domain of the federal government.
