Why are volcanoes considered windows to the Earth's interior?

Because the lava that comes out, comes from the interior.
We get to see what its made of (types of minerals) and how it functions.

Well, let's just say you are at the mouth of a volcano. You climb inside. Are you not inside the earths interior?
