Personally, I like the present tense in writing. It has an 'artistic,' in 'development' appeal.

I'm a little confused... Do you mean the present tense or set in the present time? I suppose I'll discuss both.

I tend not to enjoy contemporary fiction as much as historical or fantasy, but that's not always the case.

I think the present tense in novels is a hard thing to keep up, but I'm always impressed when I'm reading along and realize that I don't necessarily know what will happen next, because the narrator doesn't know either. Keeps me guessing, I suppose. I think it takes a lot of skill to make it work, though, and unfortunately sometimes it slips. But I generally don't pay attention to tense on a first read-through unless something jars me (i. e. doesn't flow with the rest of the text).

I like it either way, present or past tense. If the writing and the story are really good, I don't even notice what tense it's in.

It really depends...I'm kind of fond of a "timeless" book, which is hard to find now. Something that I'll be able to show my kids (if I have kids) and they'll be able to understand. But novels set in the present are pretty good...it's cool to read about things I know, like the boy band obsession, or iPods in a book.

I guess I'm saying, I really don't care either way! I just like books

I don't usually like the present tense, or first-person point of view. Don't know why, they've just never really appealed to me.

I like novels set in the present time, but my favorites are Historicals. I think any book in any time period can be "artistic" just depends on the author.

I love it, that's why I like Harry Potter so much, it's set in present time but it's like a whole other world
