Diana Gabaldon. She has written 6 books in her Outlander series, and fans are obsessively awaiting the 7th and maybe final book. She has also written several other short stories and 2 other novels about a secondary character from the Outlander series. Her writing style is amazing, and her characters become real people for you. Her books are hard to classify under a certain genre, as they contain elements of several, including, historical fiction(very rigorously researched), romance, mystery, and science fiction/fantasy. If you are asking this to get some good ideas for books to read for yourself, be forewarned each books is anywhere from 700 to over 1,000 pages...and I have loved every minute of it!

My favorite author is Caroline B. Cooney. She writes many young adult books, and most of her books are scary, or just life-like stories. You know what I mean? I advise the Horror Trilogy, and the book called Driver's ED. All of her books are really good though.

A writer by the name of Charles TODD. He writes mystery novels set in the UK right at the end of WWI; his main character is "Inspector Ian Rutledge." I love his character development of Ian as a survivor of shell-shock. I also like the way he weaves historical accounts into the mystery.
