you answered your own question, but i agree with you. Barry Sanders hands down. 2 time MVP, 3 time Offensive Player of the Year.
But what made him so great was his ability to run soooooo great with such a horrible Lions offensive line. he ran 1000+ plus yards EVERY season and in 1997 ran over 2000 yards.
i really feel bad for the guy. if he played for almost any other team they would most likely would have won the superbowl

Barry Sanders is by far the best running back to not be in a Super Bowl, also I think Eric Dickerson never played in one either.

My thoughts exactly... easily the answer is Barry Sanders.. that was until LaDanian Tomlinson joined the league. It's a toss up between the two.. no others should be discussed, but LT still has time. Sanders does not unfortunately.. so Barry wins this poll until LT's career is all said & done.
BTW.. i think Marino's going to feel real lonely on the QB version of this question once Peyton wins it on Sunday.

They rank in this order: Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, then LT. If LT keeps playing like he is, then he'll obviously move up the list...
Barry Sanders was one of the most exciting and electric players ever to touch a football, but he also frequently led the league in tackles for a loss. In the NFL, unless you have a running back who can consistently eat up yards and give your team a 3rd and short you aren't going to be a winning team. Barry would break a couple great runs every game, but too often he put his team in tough 2nd and long or 3rd and long situations. His yards-per-carry average was bloated by his long runs, and if you subtract the long runs out his average was nowhere near productive enough to be part of a winning team. Just look at backs like Emmitt Smith, Terrell Davis, Roger Craig, Franco Harris, any RB from the Redskins or Packers championship teams, Jamal Lewis, Corey Dillon... they're all downhill, get every yard you can, Super Bowl winning runners. So that's why Sanders never won a championship, and is frequently overrated in my mind. While he is nowhere near the value of Jim Brown or Earl Campbell, he obviously deserves to be discussed as one of the best, just not the best.

Barry Sanders. If he had 1/2 a team around him he could have won a title almost single handeldy. Instead he was left to breaking ankles only in the regular season.

Barry Sanders no doubt. But in fact, LaDainian Tomlinson is on the run to capture this title, in case he doesn't ever make a Super Bowl.

I agree it is Barry Sanders - but another worthy of consideration would be Eric Dickerson.
