I'm partial to George Washington and not just "because he was our first president." George Washington understood what the country needed at the time, a week presidency that was not going to even come close to becoming a monarchy. He didn't even want the role, he really was pressured into it because the country needed him so much.
If you want modern day how about Dwight Eisenhower.

George Washington. He persevered as a General in the Continental Army against all odds and problems. He, as president, believed in the self-determination of all nations, not the specific overthrow of nations to acquire their natural resources. He was a Mason and a surveyor.

I'd go with Lincoln, but one could also make the case for Washington, either Roosevelt, or a President that doesn't get a lot of acclaim, James Monroe.

While I would give FDR acclaim for his leadership during WWII, I would not give him credit for things he did for the "average American" as it was only WWII that pulled the US out of the Depression, and not FDR's policies.

OMG definately Ronald Reagan. I love the way he didnt take crap from mentally ill people and was like No way you deserve to sleep on the streets. Get some personal responsibility commie.

Oh man and I am forever thankful to him for funding Iran and Iraq. Oh and how smart was he to arm Bin Ladens freedom fighters? His masterful approach to stopping the spread of Aids? The way he said NO to drugs we are so much better off because of the war on drugs he started. Oh man and trickle down economics..."Reagomics" best Idea ever. EVER.

You know will say Reagan is not the best President ever? A communist. Because communists hate God, America and Reagan cause he kicked their butt in the 80's.
