no there's nothing stupid about it,if it needs it ,or you want to build a better motor that would be the thing to do,nothing anyone does to a engine or a vehicle is stupid, unless you just go and wreck it just to see how bad you can tear it up,that would be considered stupid, but boring one ,that's not stupid, good luck with it ,hope this help,s.

No of course not. I think someone who does the kind of things you do is not concerned with expense. I think you should spend as much money on your Tahoe as you possibly can. If you run out of money for repairs then borrow some from anyone you can to keep on burning out in mud-bogs and going as fast as you can over really big really rough ditches. Holly cow that sounds cool. Glad you asked. I would hate it if you gave up early!

honestly it wouldnt be stupid but you can get a delco remaned engine from the dealer with a 1yr warranty for about 500 less than the rebuild costs you are asking about. remember if you bore it over you need a complete engine gasket set, main and rod bearings, and new rings and pistons, add those to the cost of machining the block and you'll save alot of hassle getting one for gm.

there is a lot more to building an engine to do what you want to do besides boring .030 over.
you might want to blue print your engine.

Why not upgrade to a newer Vortec "roller" engine, higher HP and they last longer. I have seen them on ebay with all the wiring and ECM, etc.

You'd be better off buying a crate engine for that vehicle.

It would only be stupid if the person taking it apart is not a mechanic.

No if the cylinders were scored and it needed to be done, yes if it didn't need to be done.
