why? can someone tell me how to fix it?

resetting the iPod might make a difference. to do that, hold down the menu button and the select button for about 5 seconds. the screen will flicker and the iPod will reboot, hopefully allowing you to this time shut it off by holding down the play button.

Well, I don't know exactly why but wait 5 seconds, don't press anything, then try to turn it off again. Usually that fixes mine and it will turn off.

make sure your ipod isn't on hold first. then hold the play/ pause button for 6 seconds. if it doesn't work then wait a few seconds and then try again. this happened to me before and i did this and it worked. if this doesn't work go to apple.com and ask
