1. You could try to become a veterinarian
2. Or, another thing I could think of is becoming a biologist (zoologist, marine biologist, etc). An ex co-worker of mine told me that she was studying marine biology, & she actually got a chance to work as a dolphin trainer!! I thought it was awesome!
3. I've heard of "animal psychology" before, but I'm not sure if it's actually a sub-major of psychology, or if it's what is involved in veterinarian study.
Maybe you could talk with an academic supervisor? That's what I usually do because when they're not sure how to answer your questions, they'll usually be able to direct you to the right person at school.

Like you, I loved animals when I was younger and pursued numerous career options. I looked into becoming a Forest Ranger (observing animals in their natural habitat continues to interest me), a marine biologist, a zoologist (I never specified what area... I just loved all the animals!), and a teacher of Outdoor Education (not just animals, but plants as well). When I went to college, I was told jobs in my areas were extremely hard to come by... so I decided to go into teaching. Although I get to teach lessons about animals from time to time, I only get the usual classroom pets: fish, hamsters, gerbils, and mice!

why dont you major in marine biology. that way you could work outside and with all kinds of your native animal kingdom, right down to the lowly turtle. with that degree you could be a game warden/wildlife officer also. dealing with wildlife seems to be a lot better than being cooped up in a vets office and the posibilities are more open. of course vets are good too, just throwing out some options. good luck!
