WW3 will be unconventional warfare all over the world. Kind of like what is building in the middle east. I seriously doubt we'll ever see national armies combatting one another anymore. At least with the big, powerful nations. The advancement of airpower makes it extremely difficult to move armies around. Satellite surveillance and unmanned recon aircraft compound the problem. Not to mention the fact that cruise missiles can be fired from offshore and hit you in the eye while the crew of the ship watch it on tv. Nukes make it even more of a hazard. The US has stated that we will not initiate a nuclear exchange, but we reserve the right to respond in kind to any attack against us or our forces worldwide. So, unless some idiot drops a nuke or a dirty (radiological) bomb on us somewhere, the warfare will stay non-nuclear.
WW3, I believe, has started already. What we see in Iraq and Afghanistan is what you will see all over. Professional soldiers combatting insurgents and terrorists in urban areas.

Krasus is right. America is getting involved in too many things, there's a lot of tension in the world right now. NKorea has got nukes pointed at Japan. We have to defend Japan since we took away their army after WWII. We've taken action in Darfur and we're assisting the Ethiopian government right now. Iran isn't going to stop making nukes. The UN and America will fight them which means that The British Empire, Israel, maybe even France will fight them too. NATO might get all of Europe involved. The whole alliance system will trigger and BOOM! world war. The allies of the people we attack will fight and our allies will help us fight it'll escalate and escalate until everyone's fighting. It sucks but I think that's where we're headed.
