You simply move the stitch to the other needle without working it.

Simply move the stitch to the next needle (it is typically moved purl-wise... ie put the right needle into the stitch like you are going to purl, and remove the left needle without wrapping the yarn around... unless otherwise indicated). As a previous poster said.. a great resource is http://knittinghelp.com . They have excellent videos of both basic and advanced techniques!
