take the upgrade so you will have it but dont install it untill they come out with at least a spc2. First, i have been operating at half of what I had before upgrading. A lot of programs and devices is not able to run on vista. You may be alright since it is a laptop but i would definately upgrade to 2 gigs of ram. Vista with just core things running is using up 800megs, leaving under 200megs to run my programs.
Also, windows vista has a built in compliance checker, you can not run nearly all downloaded music or video's. I even downloaded real player to try to get around that but it still blocks it. It is the most privacy invassive OS I ever dealt with. I have to reload my programs several times to get them to run. Too many bugs. I had a better compter live with XP. Sure get a pretty interface that wont let you do anything even if your the administrator unless you click OK/allow 50 kajillion times. It treats you like a kids, are you sure?, are you sure? are you sure you want to delete that?, Is it ok to open the page you just clicked to open?,are you really, really, sure you have to use the bathroom? Windows has detected that you have touched the door handle, is it ok to let yourself into the bathroom? Really it is that bad....

Vista has its own positive and negative sides. It has an awesome security settings resulting....OS to take more control over humans. Graphic are very good. Yes, there are some bugs problems for now, some of them can be fixed through net. 1 GB will work on Vista. 2 GB is recommended for smooth Vista. I suggest wait for a while and see how windows may need to improve it for a month or so...!

Im glad i stumbled upon your question, if you'd like you can get a copy of PC World, I just recieved it in the mail and they show all the differences between Vista and Windows XP (it's not THAT many) plus it tells you how you can make your windows xp into vista without actually having to buy the software.

If you make your order now it will take between 6 to 8 weeks to be delivery.
I'm' waiting for mine what I'm going to do is is keep both onto my computer, in case is true all the B/S they talk about Vista then I get rid of Vista and keep Xp Pro. mid time I still have to wait 5 weeks to get the Vista upgrade.
Don't brake your head and don't trow away $200. and do the same I'm doing, after all there will be nothing to loose

Linux operating systems are excellent. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at
http://www.ubuntu.com .
You will also get all the software, that you will ever need, FREE - See

Since you get the software for free go for it. This doesn't mean you have to install it but you still will have it if you want too.
