Not only Hawaiians, alot of people from other parts of the world(Where sun shines alot.. mostly closer to the equator or in a sunny arid desert) have darker(like you call it, Tanned) skin color.

Since they are close to the equator they get most of the sunlight year round. And direct sunlight gives you a tan (or a burn).

its a race thing. thats the skin color for their race. like japanese, mexican.....etc
