and any other virus protection they can sell.I know there are a few good free ones. can any one tell me which is the best and do they really protect you and which one I should try for free?

Of course. You must pay each year for Norton. Use AVG - its free & better.

Try Avast virus protection, home edition is free. I've been using it for more than 3 years now without a problem, i have 4 computers at home.

Kaspersey Anti Virus is one of the best, I would suggest using that software over Norton.
