Linux operating systems are excellent. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at
http://www.ubuntu.com .
You will also get all the software, that you will ever need, FREE - See

You need to give us some help here, exactly how is your computer tricked out? What processor/speed, installed memory, hard drive, etc. Vista Basic is the most worthless piece of software available, as it has absolutely nothing of value, Premium would be a better choice. Now, Vista does runs considerably slower then XP, take those minimum requirements and double them. I am running Vista Business with 1GB of memory and I will be adding another 1GB as the performance is awful on it. You should have at least 2GB if not more.

What kind of specs on your PC? If you are bouncing against the minimums, you might as well give it up.
Why do you want Vista?
Home basic is a pretty well dummied down version of Vista, you would be better off staying with XP, especially if the performance is in the tanker...

vista needs more resources than xp, you better get a larger ram at least 1gb, well right now vista got some bugs that haven't been solve yet and this may cause you a problem... lake with the ie there have been 3 weaknesses which is very vulnerable and that hackers can log your system through it, you better get a good firewall and antivirus...

All of the things? You have 2 GB of RAM? You have an Nvidia GeForce 7600 (or better) with 256MB RAM? A dual-core CPU?
