Well, to be honest, I don't know too many Christian rock bands, but I still think that King's X was a fantastic hard rock band who just happened to be Christians. Many people didn't even pick up on the religous imagery and lyrics, because they were careful not to bludgeon people with a "message". It was subtle.

The fact that they were extremely accomplished instrumentally and vocally won more points from heathens like me:)
I once read that someone from Pearl Jam (Jeff Ament maybe?) credited King's X with being the pioneers of grunge. I don't think he was being sarcastic, but at the same time it never added up to me, though they did tour with Alice In Chains and other bands of the era. I find it ironic that for all the credit and praise they get from bands like Pearl Jam for inspiring lots of bands, grunge is really kind of what did King's X in. Their music was usually affirming, positive, never depressing. They were on the wrong side of the musical tracks, along with "hair metal" bands when the grunge wave hit. They plugged along through the '90s, but their sales and audience dissipated. The fact that the media always played up the Christian rock thing probably didn't help either. To add to the irony, many Christian music sellers now refuse to carry the band's catalog due to singer/bassist Doug Pinnick coming out of the closet some years ago.

Anyway, that's my take on King's X- a rock band so good live they made me feel like I was in church for the first time since I was confirmed.
