how to cancel a online account?

Let this be a warning to some of you. Like a idiot I am I made a account with ancestery .com 25.00 a month. I thought for one month. But they continue to bill my credit card. Well now I want to cancel and I sent a email requesting this. But know answe back and I dialed the phone number for customer service. But that number is not a working number. Credit card won't cancel the account until I can prove to them I made a good faith attempt to cancel. Any ideas anyone to help me here.

I recommend that you print two copies of the e-mail message you sent requesting cancellation of the account. E-mail messages always list the date they were sent so if you retained the message you have proof of the date you made the request. If you didn't save a copy of the message you can send them a second e-mail and be certain to make two copies. Why two copies? Take the first copy and mail it to ancestery.com (sic?) at the mailing address provided on the contact information page of their site. If you send the message through certified mail you will receive proof of mailing at time of mailing and the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. Return receipt can be added to confirm delivery. Make a copy of this receipt. Even if the company doesn't respond to the letter you will have proof that you made a good faith attempt to cancel. At the same time you will want to send a copy of the e-mail message and the copy of the receipt the post office provides you to your credit card company with a short letter explaining all of the actions you have taken and outlining the dates you took action. You may be able to fax the information to your credit card company though be careful not to write your credit card number nor social security number on the fax in case someone with negative intention were to intercept the info. Instead of sending the info. by fax I strongly recommend sending it through the mail and in this instance I would just request Delivery Confirmation which provides the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. That - like any of the suggestions I've listed - is optional of course though you will then have proof of when you notified your credit card company of your concern; just in case your credit card company gives you any problem. And make a copy of the letter of explanation you send to your credit card company for your own records. You could try to find a working phone number for ancestery.com and deal with this over the phone but then you won't have the documentation you need to prove your efforts in case they do not honor your cancellation request.

Send a registered letter to the address you have or can find on the website. They MUST sign to accept this. If not signed and returned you will have PROOF of such intentions to cancel. Also make a copy of the letter before mailing. If you try again online, also make copies and date and time stamp them. USPS is the BEST way though. 100% verifiable receipts.

There should be a 'contact us' part, I would imagine.. and I would email them and tell them you wish to close your account, give them your account login with your password. If they don't respond within a day or two, go back to the site and try and log in, if it's still logging in, contact them again!
