A type of rock such as you describe would, at first, be yet another sedimentary rock. It could start out as a shale ( exceedingly fine grained-grain sizes less than 1/512th of a millimeter), siltstone (1/512th-1/16th of a millimeter), sandstone (1/16th to 2 mm), or conglomerate (>2mm). However, if pressed with enough force any of the above could form a metamorphic rock. Shale metamorphoses to slate, sandstone metamorphoses to (commonly--it depends on composition) quartzite. I do not recall names for metamorphosed siltstone and conglomerate but, being a geologist and knowing how geologists like to put names on things, I am certain their are names for such rocks.
Limestone can be formed from erosion of reefs or of millions of individual calcareous plants and animals. In such a case it, too, like sandstones, shales, and siltstones, is layered. If metamorphosed limestone turns to marble.

Sedimentary - Sandstone, limestone. those are fairly particularly eroded. Igneous - Pumice (a weaker rock) and granite (a greater advantageous rock with the aid of that is smaller pores and greater compact debris)
