you can set up an equation 2(18 + x) = 46 +x. this shows that in x years, the older ring will be twice as old as the 18 year old ring. then solve for x, so 36 + 2x = 46 + x, then subtract x from both sides so that 36 + x = 46. then subtract 36 from both sides so x = 10.

*Algebraic equation > 2(18 + x) = 46 + x. The variable "x" represents a value/number.

First: eliminate parenthesis --- distribute the outer term with the terms in parenthesis...

2(18) + 2(x) = 46 + x

36 + 2x = 46 + x

Sec: subtract "36" from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign)....

36 - 36 + 2x = 46 + x - 36

2x = 46 - 36 + x
2x = 10 + x

Third: subtract "x" from both sides...

2x - x = 10 + x - x

x = 10

*Solution --- the older ring will be twice as old as the new ring in 10 years.

You need to find the LCM with this you need to find the prime factorization of the number. Do as the following:
18:3x6
46:2to the fourthx3
now circle the HIGHEST exponents, if there is no exponent just pick one of the numbers.
3x6x2 to the fourth
multiply that and you get your answer
I got 288 years.

ok you have to do 2 times 18+z= 46. so really this is fairly easy (no offense) so 18 times 2 would equal 36 then plus 10 would equal 46. hope that helps! and just to let u no im in sixth grade (not to brag)
