Because she is brilliant and that means you have to command respect if you are a doctor. She wants her daughter to know that. It is tough love.

I think that shes angry because of all the bad things that have happened in her life and now shes taking it out on Meridith. I dont know how anybody would put up with that women. I wanted to smack her from the first time i saw her

She is just focused and not caring that's her character I'm glad Meredith is not like that ***** that is why she is alone and Richard wants adelle and not her!
