Is this a good, safe source of heat? We had power out for 10 days, and I am trying to think ahead for the next time, if you know what I mean? Do you have a recommendation for a heat source bearing in mind that kerosene was in short supply?

oil heaters use electricity, so there goes that option. there are propane heaters but those require a lot of gas. i would say your next best bet, albeit not the cheapest would be a back-up generator.

Your other choice that does not (in some cases) involve electricity in some way is a portable propane heater. There are several different styles of these available.
