I have a perfect suggestion for you. Visit the website jurgita.com. There is a great community of many fashion industry professionals. You may contact them for free or talk in forum. You will get a free portfolio, add you sketches there and ask for some professiona designer critics. If you realy have a talent then you will be noticed by some of them and could be hired to join some team or similar.. That websites gives wide oportunities for people like you. Good luck :)

Even a properly used "point and shoot" camera under $200 could deliver fine results if you pay attention to lighting, focus, etc. A solid tripod would aid in getting sharp photos in low light with such a camera. Any decent camera, even low priced, used used within the design parameters of the camera could work for these assignments. To a great degree it is more of an issue of the photographer than which camera. Even an expensive camera will not correct bad lighting, bad framing, or motion blur. Borrow some cameras and practice. Find one you like. If you want to spend $ then the Nikon D5100 is being closed out maybe under $500 at some sites or stores. Consumer Reports just highly rated the Nikon D3200, around $700. Just remember.,. A camera is but a paint brush, it is more important who is holding the brush than which brush it is.  All decent cameras can take wonderful pictures in the right hands. Spend your time studying great lighting and composition because even a great camera can not fix bad lighting or composition.  And have fun with whichever brush you buy

The fashion business is very competitive. The only way to make it into magazines is to already have your name out there. I'm sure you already know that. Enroll in business and design classes. This would give you more of a competitive edge.

I suggest learning how to sew and make the clothes yourself. If you are designing dresses, especially for teens for example, pass out fliers to them to make customized one of a kind dresses. Word of mouth can definitely get your name out there.
