This is my 11th year of teaching.
I have taught all levels of high school mathematics.
My typical day starts off with about 45 minutes of tutoring and then I teach Algebra 1 and Geometry. Before Geometry, the whole school reads for 20 minutes. Then we have lunch. After lunch I teach either Geometry or Personal Finance. On the days that I teach Personal Finance, I have planning last. On the days that I have 2 Geometry classes, I have planning right after lunch. We teach on rotating block schedule.
My favorite part of teaching is watching the students discover the math. I also enjoy watching them help each other. My least favorite is discipline.
I tell my students that I became a teacher because I was such a horrible waitress. This is somewhat true, but my love of learning was what helped me go back to school after 10 years.
I have had more than I have time to list but:
I have my BS in Mathematics, MA in Mathematics Education, AVID training, IMP training, Leadership training and the list goes on. If you are interested in being a teacher, do not worry about the extra training, my districts have always sent me to the training and paid for the cost and the travel.
I wish you luck

How many years have you been teaching? a year and a half
What subject or grade do you teach? HS resource English and math
What do you do on a typical day as a teacher? I teach one class of 8th grade pre-algebra, and two HS classes each of English and pre-algebra. My HS classes are made up of students from 9-12, as we are a very small school district. I am working on getting a transitions skills curriculum for my juniors and seniors.
What is your favorite and least favorite part of the job? I love my kids! They are always a joy, even the ones with 'attitude'. I hate the fact that I am constantly battling the effects of a predecesor (the one before the one I replaced) who allowed the students to do packets and play games all day. They had very little teaching of new skills. I am teaching grade level appropriate materials with modifications and adaptations. My freshman and sophomores are more willing to work, but the juniors and seniors sometimes need a lot of prodding.
What jobs and experiences have led you to this job? I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began after high school, decided college wasn't right for me at that time, then went back 13 years later to get my degree. In between college stints I was a hair dresser for 10 years, Wal-mart for one year and also worked nights at the USPS while I went to college.
What kind of education or training have you had? I completed a special education program at Illinois State University and graduated with a B.S.E. My IL certification is in the category Learning Behavior Specialist I and my AZ certification is in cross-category (the programs and certificates in the two states are done differently, but both cert. cover the same areas.)

i've taught for 4 years
i've taught 6-9th grade, and college
i get to school and make copies, teach my classes, which involves me standing in front giving a mini lesson, and then walking around helping students as they practice and produce work. during my planning period i do paperwork, review the curriculum and decide what needs to be taught and reviewed the next day, and i grade papers.
my favorite is when the kids learn new things and i can see them using it. the worst is how disrespectful some kids are, and all of the testing...i hate testing!!!
the experience i got was in college. i did lots of observations during college, and i also did student teaching. i was a college athlete, and that also gave me the discipline i needed to be a good teacher
i have a bachelor of arts degree in english and philosophy, a masters degree in english, and i'll continue with my ph.d in linguistics
