It is simpler to use the same brand. It would make troubleshooting easier if you ever had an interruption in your network. However, it -is- possible to use different brands.
If you do use the same brand for the Wireless router and for the expresscard, clearly label the CDs. (I have had this problem at my parents' home. THIS CD is for the ROUTER. THIS CD is for the EXPRESSCARD.) It will save you a lot of headaches later.

You don't have to use a linksys wireless card, but I have read where if you have the same brand as your router, it will work better. I have both linksys router, and card, and it works great together. But, you can use any wireless card that you have available. If you already have a different brand, just give it a try, and see how it works. Good Luck..

you can use any wireless card you want as long as it is the same band as the router...IE_802.11b. if it says this on the card then it will work. it is really recommend to use the same brand as the router but not necessary.

NO. That would be ridiculous. You can use a D-Link, Belkin, Intel, Hawking, or any other wireless card. Your internet speed will be the speed of whichever device is slower.

802.11 is a standard that all companies follow, so any pc card will do the job.
