I know that I am probably being a paranoid mother but my five month old baby just started shaking his head back and forth (almost like he is saying "no"). He has been doing it more often and I am just worried. He doesn't seem to distressed. Do you think this could be a problem? I hate to call the dr. over every little thing that I think may be wrong, but I just worry about my baby. Has anyone elses baby done something like this?

My daughter did this when she was a newborn, in the hospital, and I thought she was having a seizure. Turns out, she was rooting (looking for the breast, wanting to nurse). Feed him, and see if it doesn't stop.

We called it the "super root" once we figured out what it was. :)

My baby girl does the same thing. Its as if shes looking around in a "no " gesture like you said. I think they are becoming more familiar with their surroundings. If it a fast shake, I would call the Dr. Maybe there is neck pain. My daughter has been doing since 5 months as well she 6 months old now.

he is starting a new thing. Before you know it, there will be a new repetition. It feels cool to him and probably he hears things differently when he moves his head from side to side. I do remember mine doing the same thing. But, there is nothing wrong with you being concerned, that is what mothers do.
