Genetic traits are genotypic similarities passed on from parents to offspring during the chromosonal replication process. These traits can be phenotypic (arising in the physical characteristics of an individual) or just genetic. They include:
hair/eye color (phenotypic)
skin color (pheno.)
tendencies toward disease (usually just genotypic)
and other "classically genetic" examples like the hitch-hikers thumb, widow's peak hairline, ability to roll your tounge (pheno)

Genetic traits differ from environmentally-influenced traits in that the genetic traits just tell what the organism's phenotype SHOULD be if everything goes well!
Example:
1. Genes say that the person's feet will be a certain length. That's how the feet will turn out unless environmental factors make them turn out differently (malnutrition, wrong size shoes, ....)
2. Genes say that the dandelion's leaves will be a certain color of green based on the pigments inside. (but the environment can change that if someone sprays a chemical on it, puts a board over it, ...)

A trait may be any single feature or quantifiable measurement of an organism. However, the most useful traits for genetic analysis are present in different forms in different individuals.
A visible trait is the final product of many molecular and biochemical processes. In most cases, information starts with DNA traveling to RNA and finally to protein (ultimately affecting organism structure and function). This is the Central Dogma of molecular biology as stated by Francis Crick.
This information flow may also be followed through the cell as it travels from the DNA in the nucleus, to the Cytoplasm, to the Ribosomes and the Endoplasmic Reticulum, and finally to the Golgi Apparatus, which may package the final products for export outside the cell.
Cell products are released into the tissue, and organs of an organism, to finally affect the physiology in a way that produces a trait.

If you mean whether the person has a penis, or a vagina, then in a way, yes. The mother's egg has an X chromosome. The dad's sperm has either an X or a Y. They pair, becoming either XX (female) or XY (male). But mentally, a person may feel that they are another "gender". This is a more complicated issue, and some researchers say it may be genetic, whilst some say it is all up to that person's experiences.

It's nature and nurture... so yes, genetics influence gender. An example of this would be that sex is determined by genetics, and sex has an influence on gender. The main sex hormones, testosterone and estrogen, have a large influence on a person's behavior and preferences, which influences gender. Nurture also effects gender as well, because social roles and rules also influence gender, and also dictate behavior and what it means to be a man or woman (i.e. boys don't cry, girls who sleep with lots of people are slutty, boys need to be tough, girls should play with barbies, etc.) Short answer, yes, gender is influenced by genetics (sex), but it is also influenced by the environment as well. Note: Gender and sex is not the same thing. Sex is determined by chromosomes (XY, XX), Gender is a set of characteristics distinguishing between male and female, and is partially a social construct. This means you could biologically be a male, but your gender could be female (Male to Female Transgender). Gender has more to do with whether an individual identifies with male gender roles or female gender roles, which is determined by society.
