This issue is stupid in so many different ways. First, the democrats claim that raising the minimum wage will help those poor people trying to support a family. If you are trying to support a family on minimum wage you are just too lazy to get a better position. A large portion of the people affected by this are teenagers, people under the legal voting limit, people that do not have any say in how the government functions, people that will not remember the name or even party that established their insignificantly small increase in pay. Secondly this is mainly to deal with all of the illegals that this country has to deal with. Instead of comming up with a decent system to deport them, they just keep forcing Americans to deal with them and all of the problems that they cause by being "freeloaders." I have nothing against people of any other race that come here legally; that is what America was built on. But give me a break, what part of ILLEGAL does this government have a hard time understanding. Lastly, I am willing to bet that when all is said and done, our foolish government will have spent more money establishing this raise in pay, than all of the total money that is given to all of the people affected by it will receive.

The minimum wage is all "We the People" have to fight the gap between the rich and poor. For every 7% the wage rises products only go up about 2% that is all the corporations can get away with. How then back when I was in high school in 96` the local McDonald's paid $8hr and how that same store pays $6.10 today and is still open. These corporations have us people by the balls.

Why don't you do the math and figure out how much extra it will cost you to enable another human being to live a little more humanely.

Your burger won't go up more than 1 cent, unless the owner decides to take advantage of ignorance and use it as an excuse to raise prices more than necessary.

And like every business, if sales drop he'll have to lower prices to attract business. This means the owner might make a little less. How come that's never seen as an option?

Don't worry abut it. The minimum wage is just to prevent employers from paying abusively low wages. Practically everyone--even unskilled workers--makes that much or more already.

The only employers left who aren't wo't have any trouble with the slight added expense. The only exceptions will be a few businesses which are so incompetantly managed that they lack the productivity to pay decent wages. And they won't be around long anyway--those kind of businesses are destined to fail.

Liberals think by giving teenagers and the part time raises some how it will buy them some votes. Everyone knows raising the minimum wage will do nothing for the average American! How about figuring out why all our manufacturing jobs (good paying jobs) are leaving and being replaced by walmart crap jobs?! Free trade, i.e. NAFTA stinks! If we are suppose to be a service oriented society than lets pay our service people! If you have to pay $7 bucks for a combo at McD's than so be it. If I have to pay $5 bucks for a head of lettuce, so be it! Lets protect our jobs and get the illegals out!!!

Actually, using your analogy, Jack in the Box will probably use cheaper meat with more filling.

Minimum Wage Increases make the poor think that the Democrats are really helping them.

Big deal. The cost of living inflation will catch up in 6 months. They've been trying to raise the minimum wage for 2 years, so... 2 years worth of work for 6 month benefit of pennies per dollar.

Boy, thank god for those Democrats! (sarcasm)

If it wasn't for those stupid republicans, poor people would be rich... yadda yadda yadda...

It really don't matter, because this year is the beginning of the second great depression
But to answer your question, the senators want to raise the min. wage, so they won't feel so guilty about giving themselves a raise, last time they gave their their selves a raise, it was$ 80,000 to$ 140,000 and at the same time they thought there was no reason to raise min. wage of $5.15, they thought, well we're the only ones that deserve a raise, those stupid people that vote for us will forget about this by the next election anyway

Didn't you read the new law? Small business got tax breaks, and individuals that earn over $1 mil a year lost some of their tax loopoles to pay for it.

well george w. found hundreds of billions of dollars for a war and didn't raise taxes so maybe he can sprinkle some of that special pixie dust on the poor folk working for minimum wage.
