I just took my first pill of Citalopram. When will it kick in and start working? I've been having social problems and fluctuating mood swings before I started taking it, will it cure me? Totally acting out of character!! I also been having trouble focusing on information or material discussed in school and work place. Will it help me focus?

Hi, see this for the most in-depth info: http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?s=citalopram&gwp=13

Basically, as with any SSRI type of anti-depressant medication, it can take several weeks to notice a real difference. So don't lose hope if you aren't feeling better yet. It will work over time, and if you feel after a few weeks that it's working but not enough, your psychiatrist should increase the dose.

Good luck!

Not for ever. One has to come to the understand of their true identity and take responsibility for their own mind and senses. Chanting the Maha Mantra is the best means for controlling the mind and coming to our constitutional position. We are not this body or mind or intellect etc. But we as spirit souls have to learn to control our mind. To rely on some external thing or drug fix it is only temporary. If you want a real cure not a temporary fix- go to harekrishnatemple.c Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupad- tells the meaning and purpose of human life. Believe me I tried so many psych drugs and they just didn't work.(in fact some made it worse for me and others I know)
