A mutex is a 'mutually exclusive' lock on an object/handle in programming. This way threads don't step all over each other.

This is used in multi-threading; two threads can synchronize using a Mutex.

So 'grabbed execution mutex' means that a thread got the mutex, e.g. the exclusive handle to execution.
