It could be a mystery clue, special documentation, maybe even a rock as evidence of a clue. OR if u wanna write a story about it, the bump is actually a sock that the tiny people who live under the loose floor board dropped as they were running away from a bypassers foot. IDK-be imaginativ
also- it could represent a problem or a clue

A dead mouse... eww... It really depends on the story. If the mystery is about mice, it could be a mouse, if it's about shoes, it could be a sole. I would try to make it fit with the story. Maybe add a twist somewhere with it. Good luck! I hope this helps.
