Polymerization is the chemical reaction process where small molecules are hooked together to form a long chain molecule. These long-chain molecules are called polymers. Some of them are made of tens of thousands of the original small molecule.

Many plastics are made this way. Polyethylene is a common plastic that is polymerized from the small ethylene molecule (C2H4).

Polyvinylchoride (PVC) is another common product of the polymerization process.
