Pujols, no doubt. He even won his first Gold Glove last season. However, if I had to pick a player to start a team with, I'd choose the best pitcher in baseball: Johan Santana

Well since the season hasn't started yet, I am going to go with mentioning the current MVP's are Ryan Howard and Justin Morneau and CY winners are Johan Santana and Brandon Webb. However I think the best player needs to be expanded to best players as I think you need a pitcher and a position player. The best field player must be based on at least last three years of production and Albert Pujols is putting up numbers comparable only to legends, however, for a career currently Alex Rodriguez is already being discussed as one of the greatest ever with stats on pace to break Home runs, RBI's and compete with hits( he's ahead of Pete Rose at same age). A Pitcher, no question, Johan Santana period, he had the triple crown of pitching Wins, ERA and strike outs last year and for a lack of run support and injury should have won three consecutive cy youngs. His stuff is compared to Sandy Koufax and Randy Johnson and he a special talent that only comes around every 20 years. Otherwise, Roger Clemens if he played a full season and the year before had run support in leading the National league in era would have won three consecutive Cy youngs and pushing 46 and only about 20 wins away from the modern day win record of 363 held by warren spahn. Pedro Martinez isn't playing currently until mid-july becuase of injuries so I am not going to include him but statistically, generation by generation his ERA is the lowest in baseball history.

If you mean active players here it is (In my opinion there's no best player since their MLB season records change) Right now its mostly Albert Pujols. Ryan Howard, Miguel Cabrera, Johan Santana, Roy Oswalt, Derek Jeter, and David Ortiz also are 2nd to Albert Pujols
If you mean by All Tim (Cant choose), its Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Pete Rose, Lou Gehrig, Cy Young, Nolan Ryan, and Ed Walsh.

Albert Pujols is the best and will remain the best for a while. Nobody has his mix of power, average, defense and smarts.
But look out for Ryan Howard and David Wright.

I love Vlad, and I hate following trends, but right now it is Pujols. Best hitter in the game and a gold glove fielder. Before his injuries Vlad was right there, and if A-Rod gets his mojo back he can be #1. If Andruw Jones could hit for better average he could legitamatly enter the conversation too.
Best pitcher is Santana, but his teammate Liriano could potentially displace him. Watch out for Felix Hernandez this year too.

Its got to be between Albert and Derek Jeter. Albert is the best hitter right now. He can hit the ball anywhere and with power. Jeter has the best glove and a great arm. Jeter can bat pretty good in the avg. and rbis statitistics.

I think I would have to say it's between Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez. I think that A-Rod just had too much pressure last year and I think he will do better this year. Currently right now it's Pujols but that might change.
