Saying I don't know and asking why is the start of wisdom. However that is not all, you must also learn to be able to answer and eventually learn how to ask and answer ever more complex questions to be able to go down the road to gaining wisdom.

So in short asking is more important to start with and answering is more important later. Hope this helps

If you look at this whole process carefully, you will notice that both , asking and answering are equally important.

Take a simple question , someone asked, about solving Sudoku. The answers given therein , was shared by me with dozens of my friends. Sometimes , even for a simple , silly sounding questions the variety of answers are eye openers.

We, all, live trapped in our own thoughts and preconceived ideas.. For many day to day things , that are happening around us, we have no clue but go by what others do.

Yahoo helps us widen our horizon. It is "chicken or egg first" even with questions and answers.

The asking of questions. There are already too many people in the world who are all too willing to put their "two-cents" worth on every subject. More often than not, these answers are often prejudged are often just to prove the point of the speaker rather than truly attempting to answer the question.

Asking questions does not have such impurities. A question is just a question asked by the curious. Asking is how you learn and learning is how you grow.

My first thought was that a good question would make lots of people think, where a good answer helps one person. However, in a forum like this, good answers are read as much as the questions, so its difficult to decide. I personally enjoy a good question, so I guess I'll vote that way.

I belive answering a question is more important.

By asnwering a question you are displaying your knowledge of a certain topic. You are giving to others who seek knowledge. (although it is best if the asker experiences the question for himself, the answerer acts as a guide)

By answering a question, you are also making your understanding of the topic more concrete. You giving yourself a stronger foundation of the subject. Thus, possible answering you own questions by talking your way through it. Just as i am doing now.

But asking the question is important also, because it gives the answerer a reason to display their knowledge.

Great Question!!!

It is not possible to answer without a question, hence it needs a question to answer hence important.
A question without an answer doesn't complete its purpose, hence an answer is important to a question.
The purpose is served only when both are there, hence both are important.

Asking questions because they lead to answers. Without questioning there would be no answering.
