I wanted to order a dress from an online dress store. To order the proper size I have to be measured and then look at a sizing chart. So I got measured and I go to look at the sizing chart to determine which size to get. But, of course, there is a problem. They don't have a dress size that's my precise measurements. The first measurement is a 36.5" but if I get the dress with bust size 36, the waist will be 28 but my waist size is 31. If I get the bust size, it will be too tight around the waist, if I get the waist size, it'll be too loose around the bust. What do I do?

most of the time when ordering dresses by measurements, you have to go by the largest measurement (either bust, waist or hips). Then you have to have it altered.

I have that problem all the time, being larger on bottom than on top, MANY people are not the "perfect, true size" that is offered in stores. You either have to get a dress that is about 2 sizes larger than your waist so it fits your bust, then go to a seamstress to have it altered - or, buy separates, a top and skirt. Believe me, I know all about it, and many other women do, too, it's a pain to not be a perfect model size!

I know how you're feeling.Had that once...I really liked this dress but its the same measurement problem and all.I told a friend and she happened to be great in sewing. So she told me to get the dress with 'my' waist size and she did some sewing to the loose bust size.It was great!
So you'd better check around if there's any tailor or a friend who could help you with that 'cos it's easier to deal with the loose bust size than the tight waist...you know what I mean?!
Or if you can go to the store,it's better for you to try it on.Who knows it may fit you without doing any alterations after all.
All the best! :)

Either don't order from them, or inquire as to whether they do free alterations.
One other thing you can do; if this place also has an actual retail store, or if you can find a retail store that sells that particular brand, then you can go and try it on there first. Once you determine the correct size, you can order it online. I have done this a few times as it can be quite difficult to order online and get it right the first time.
Good luck.

Get the size that fits/matches your hips (because most of the time that's where us women carry our weight), and the have the dress fitted to your bust.

get the waist size, and if possible, get your mom or a seamstress to take it in around the bust. My mom always does stuff like that for me!! =)

give half an inch extra, leave soe space for breating rather than appearing like u have borrowed some one else's dress.
half an inch extra wont even show on the bust, but an inch less on the waist, truse me would be awkward.

I would ask others what to do in some type of forum. I think you'll get some really good answers there.
