The only jobs I've been able to find involve social work but that's not for me. I'm planning to go back to school in the future but in the meantime I want to gain some real world experience. I'm really interested in neuroscience but every entry level job requires experience.

You might want to look for research assistant positions at or through your university. If your programs psych program is large enough they may need someone post bachelor to do some elements (this is particularly true if you were at a large research 1 institution - though many of these jobs will go to work study or scholarship students). If you are interested in research you might also look at this in the private sector and be willing to look at a very entry level job (get your foot in the door). You also want to use your advisors and profs from you uni..see if they know of places around the country to look at.

I faced the same thing after college- had no idea what I wanted to do with my BA in psychology but wanted to get some real experience in the field.
You can become a research assistant/coordinator and work on research studies. THat's what I've been doing for the past 2 years after college. You get a real sense of what the research field is like, and you get to work directly with patients who are participants in the studies which can be neat. There's a lot of administrative and database management involved which I sometimes like and other times don't, but all-in-all I'd say it's a really good, practical first job to try after college that you'll feel prepared to take on. There's also a lot more demand for research coordinators so it's a practical field.

Did you ask your professors for recommendations, if you wanted a job in neuroscience?

Hard to believe as a graduate with a degree in psychology that you wouldn't KNOW what the job opportunities are in the field BEFORE you graduated in it.

Why not look into criminology or police work working in the labs.

You're not going to be head of department, you have to start out with entry level jobs to gain experience.

Agreed. Do what makes you happy. If you don't see yourself studying anything else, then don't. It'll work out in the end. You're already planning to go for at least your Master's degree which is very smart move. You might find that you have to be creative once you get to the stage that requires you to find and settle into a career, but do some research on what you can do with Psych degree. I can tell you for sure that there is more then "Psychologist" :)

A BA, or BS in the field of psychology is nearly worthless. To really make a living in this field, you need a minimum of a masters degree, preferably a Ph.D.

I hate to tell you this, but you picked a crappy major. My cousin has her PHD in Psychology and makes 15/hr, with out benefits, the demand is not real high.

Should have thought about this before doing the time in school.

Duh!

Go to flight school = become a pilot

Go to nursing school = become a nurse

BA in Psychology = Social Worker

Psychology is an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental processes and behavior. Psychology also refers to the application of such knowledge to various spheres of human activity, including problems of individuals' daily lives and the treatment of mental illness.
