Also, would you recommend using travelers checks in St. Thomas?

Yes they do. But Visa and MasterCard are more easily accepted. Sometimes they require a certain minimum amount you are charging to use the card. Traveler's Cheques are accepted but not everywhere. So a Credit/Debit card would be best.

They probably accept Amex at some places, and not at others. VISA and MasterCard are the most universally accepted credit cards.

You might have trouble...and travelers checks can be a pain in the butt (I've found). Why not open a new master card or visa account since they can be used just abount anywhere on earth.

Most do, mainly because of the cruise ship travelers. Yes, I do recommend travelers cheques.

Yes. Don't leave home with it. (Traveler's Check's are a bad investment. Take few, if any. Commisions etc.)
