1) Learn why you overeat--you can diet all you want, but you need to know WHY you overeat in the first place.
2) Learn moderation in eating--don't take out your favorite foods, just learn to be satisfied with less.
3) Find activities that YOU enjoy. I always suggest joining a gym. We just joined Gold's Gym for $50/month (family) and they offer personal training for your areas you want to lose.
4) Set small goals and work up. Don't set a 50 pounds goal over 4 months; set a 5 pound goal each month. Also learn how to depend on measuring. Muscle weighs more than fat, and if you lose 40 pounds but gain 20 pounds of muscle, you're going to feel better AND look better.
5) Don't count calories and fear them. Embrace calories but don't fear them. Understand that you NEED a 2,000 calorie diet. If you go any less than 1500, you need to constul a doctor.
6) Reward yourself for every 5/10 pounds you lose. Buy some new shoes! Get a haircut! Do SOMETHING!
7) Drink water--8-11 glasses/day. Juices are fine, but don't drink more than 2 glasses a day. Also, limit yourself on alcohol.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
Get started today!

You should eat 5 to 6 mini meals a day. Make sure a good protein source is in every meal. Limit snacks and soft drinks, take in plenty of water instead. DO NOT skip breakfast. You'll actually lose more weight if eat some. Try not to eat after 7 pm. Try to do at least 30 to 60 minutes of cardio 4 to 5 times a week. Good luck!

Exercise is always a great help, so is water, but if you want to loose weight fast try eating as many proteins as you can for just a couple of weeks. Stay away from white bread, pasta & rice, potatoes and anything with sugar in it (including fruit, carrots & beets!) for two weeks and you won't believe how fast you can loose a few pounds.
Not a good idea to do this for longer than a couple of weeks, it's very taxing on the liver... After 2 weeks of this, try adding a little bit of fruit (but never too much,) and small quantities of brown bread, pasta and rice for some complex carbohydrates.
Drink water, but not more than necessary, (6-8 glasses.) Too much water will lower your sodium levels...

DDR!
It's fun, rhythmic, and can help with the weight loss process!
You just need an XBox (or PS2), and the pads for the system!
The pad that comes with the system is the official Konami softpad (for Sony mixes, second generation; for Microsoft mixes, first generation), for use with the system indicated.
Just start on light mode, then work your way up the level ladder!

my husband and i both cut out sugar and food made w/ white flour. he lost 70 lbs in 6 months and i lost 40. we have kept it off for over 2 years. this is really an abbreviated form of the Atkins plan, but it really worked for us. if we feel ourselves gaining a few pounds back, we go back to that system hardcore to get back to where we need to be. good luck and remember that everyone is different and our bodies might respond differently to different programs.
Also, it's not about diet, it's about lifestyle. Diets don't work; you have to change your lifestyle.
