He beat out Bird head to head in college and won their battles throughout the pros
His run on top also lasted longer

Larry was the number 1 guy on the celts, Magic was the number 2 on a team of all stars, so you tell me who was better?

It's not hard for me. Magic Johnson was better. He could play every position and once did as he led the Lakers to a NBA title.
As good as Bird was he could never match that feat.

Larry Bird. He was fundamentally more sound. His outside shot was far superior to Johnson's. His leadership, unquestionable.

MAGIC HAD SO MUCH NATURAL ABILITY IT MADE HIM FUN TO WATCH, BUT LARRY BIRD HAD TO WORK SO HARD TO BECOME AS GOOD AS HE WAS THAT JUST FOR SHEER WORK ETHIC HE'S THE BETTER PLAYER.
