Kids and animals make me grin like a maniac - thay really know what life's about. But I'm supposing they do they same for most people.

hearing my favorite song on the radio makes me smile...
making and eating chocolate ship cookies make me smile..
a hot shower makes me smile...
no lines at the supermarket makes me smile...
a special glance makes me smile...
getting mail makes me smile...
taking a drive on a pretty road makes me smile...
finding 20 dollars in an old coat makes me smile...
looking into someones eyes and knowing they love me makes me smile...
running through sprinklers makes me smile...
midnight calls that last for hours makes me smile...
having someone tell me I'm beautiful makes me smile...
accidentally hearing someone saying something nice about me makes me smile...
having someone playing with my hair makes me smile...
swinging on swings makes me smile...
holding hands with someone i care about makes me smile...
watching the sunrise and sunset makes me smile...
getting a hug from someone i care about makes me smile...
and the list can go on and on and on, but I'm gonna spare you the time :-)

A lot of times I will smile and laugh at myself when I do something stupid like running into something, or even embarassing myself. I figure that if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh about. I will give a smile or wise smirk to someone when they display their idiosynchrocies, and a lot of times they will smile or laugh at themselves also. Like you said, kids are worthy since they are so innocent, and you can notice their stages of development in everything they do. Some others things: coincidences,other people( smiles are highly infectious), reflecting on old memories with family,anticipating a good meal,or even people who bother you when you raise your eyelids and think, "here they go again."

When someone else smiles. Something that is very nice or funny makes me smile. Kids and animals make me smile because they look cute.
