No matter whether or not I use base coat, nail polish only seems to last a day before it starts to peel off my nails (without me picking at it!). Base coat doesn't make a difference, and I've tried all the best brands and it seems the more they cost the quicker it comes off.

Any hints (not brands)?

One thing to try is slightly, EVER so slightly, file the top of your nails.

If you aren't willing to do that but still want your nails to look good, I suggest buffing them. It looks more natural & is less maintenance.

If that didn't help you at all then forgive me, I have tried my best.

You should always apply 1 coat of base coat, 2 coats of colour and 1 coat of clear top coat.
Apply base coat to all ten nails then the coloured polish to one hand and then the other-- wait 5- 10 mins before applying the second coat of coloured polish-- then wait another 5 minutes before applying top coat. Once you have applied top coat sit your fingers in a dish of cold water with a few ice cubes in it- this will set the polish and hopefully it will stay on longer.

** I'm not sure if you already do this but make sure that you always wear rubber gloves when washing dishes, clothes and gardening to protect your skin and the polish

Use a really fine grained nail buffer and lightly buff your nails down. Then apply a base coat, nail polish etc. and the make sure to use a good topcoat to seal your nail polish.
