what does it mean when they say "write the equal factors"for exponents?

Sounds like that would be write out an exponential expression in terms of products of equal factors.
For example, 3^4 would be 3x3x3x3
The 3's are all equal to each other, and they are factors, that is, elements multiplied together.
Another example might be something like
(x+1)^4
That would be
(x+1)(x+1)(x+1)(x+1)

x^5 = x•x•x•x•x
and so on
