Right now its the GSXR 1000 but the R1 has been redesigned for 07 and from what I hear its going to be the liter bike to have. As far as the Honda goes I dont think they even make a 900 anymore, at least not in the US, but even their 1000 isn't as fast as the R1 or GSXR 1000, of course were talking about tenths of a second in times between the three so unless your going to race its best to buy the bike your the most comfortable on.

Ill take a GSXR 1000 any day.
The GSXR1000 has been leading the way for all liter bikes for years. The Yamaha has been getting better. It is newer and fresher so it gets better reviews. its kinda like the ZX10 bike of the year. That was crap. My 04 GSXR is faster than my friends 06 ZX10 but the ZX10 was redesigned and therfore better publisity.
It really does not matter on the track (at a local level). On the track the rider makes the difference. My son raced a ninja 250s and could fly past liter bikes all day. It was fun to watch.
Ill take a 600 kawi on the track and a GSXR1k on the street.
Those are my preferences. I will smoke liter bikes all day, yamahas and suzukies.
Frakley just buy the one that you think looks cool. If you are a faster rider you will be a faster rider period.

The R1, GSXR1000, CBR1000RR are all so close in top end and 1/4 mile speed that it doesnt really matter. It mainly just falls into what you like the best and the quality of the bike. I would definitely go with the CBR or the R1. The GSXR is junk.

07 R1 with adjustable intake and redesigned 16v motor.
Keep in mind that all those numbers mean very little compared to the skill of the person riding. So you may buy the fastest bike on paper, but your buddy who's been doing track days for the past 5 years is going to smoke you on a 600cc bike.

Like always, speed is more dependent on rider skill than machinery. Any gay, drunk chimpanzee with Tourette's syndrome can twist a throttle, but it takes a good rider to be fast in corners.
