Okay, if he won with the ratio 6 to 4, that means that he got 60 percent of the total number of votes. If his opponent got 146 votes (or 40 percent of the votes) then you can find out how many votes equals 10 percent and multiply that by 6 (because he had 60 percent) to find out his total number of votes:

146/4 = 36.5
So 10 percent of the votes equals 36.5

36.5*6 = 219
So 60 percent of the votes equals 219
So there were 365 votes total

So Tony got 219 votes.

Set up the proportion:

6/4 = x/146

Cross multiply: (You're multiplying 4 & x, and then 6 & 146)

4x = 876

Divide both sides by 4

x = 219

------------------

Solution: Tony got 219 votes.
