Yup, happened to me, extreme stress can make your period not come as soon, or make it not come at all. It's weird, I know.

extreme stress
oral birth control pills
extreme weight loss
pregnancy
injury
surgery

other than that, each person is different...when I was a teenager I had a period for 8 days; now in my late 30s it lasts 3-4 days tops...perhaps because this is the age women go into peri-menopause (the time in your life right before menopause starts).

A period is the body's way of removing the blood and tissue it's gathered during the month and during ovulation to prepare for pregnancy. When that doesn't happen your body "sheds" the tissue and blood; and as I said it's different for everyone.

I hope this helps; if your experience is extreme; as in abnormally long periods or very heavy flow you should go to the doctor. A gynocologist will be able to help you with these problems and explain further how you can ease a painful period.

The depoprovera shot can stop you from having a period. There is also a new birth control pill that shortens your period to only last 4 days.

Try using the Birth Control Pill, it regulates periods and you only have them for about 3-5 days.

Stop it? No. Put it off? Yes. Seasonale and Seasonique are birth control pills that result in a period every 3 months. You can also do this with regular pills by not taking the placebo week and proceeding straight to the following week. But you should consult your doctor first.

If you mean 'naturally' - yes, stress, diet, exercise or lack there of... another thing that can mess with it (and then stabilize it) is beginning to sleep with a male... not even having sex, just the regular exposure to the male hormones alters, then helps stabilize a woman's menstrual cycle.

And their are the various birth control pills - which can alter, or even stop menstruation.

Not really -- If is troublesome to you, then you might want to check with the doctor. Sometimes a period that is extreme can be regulated with birth control pills, or other methods.

if you get your carriage removed you dont have periods anymore, but you also cant have babies and it gives you like a lot of wierd moodswings and stuff, so i wouldnt suggest it. but taking birth control pills have been known to give people shorter periods. :-)
And if you want less pain while you're on your period, eat bananas and take a midol.
