My husband has been playing NWN I for years, and for Christmas I bought him NWN 2. After looking at the requirements for the game, we made some upgrades (speed, memory, video card). He just installed the game and when he runs the game, he just gets a completely black screen, the golden arrow cursor that is inclusive to the game, and sound; no other graphics.

The cursor moves accordingly and even "clicks" when we start clicking blindly. Something is going on, WE just cannot see it.

He's gone onto the forums and asked to no avail. He's gone to the FAQ's on Bioware and Bastions of War--nothing. He's even disabled all of the firewalls before running the game, and the results are always the same.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I meant to type, "EXclusive to the game," with regard to the cursor I see on the screen.

I've also downloaded all the patches and upgrades as well.

Reinstalling would be my best bet. ( i know it's a long install ) You may need to upgrade your video card drivers as well. If you have an ATI card, I know they put up a new driver for my card (x1600) about 2 weeks ago. The game is alot more stable with it. Mine takes a long time to start up cuz it's such a resource hog, but when it does it's fine. While it starts up, i get that same blank screen with a regular arrow cursor, then it swaps to a golden cursor. Do you hear the cinematic at the start? Check the nwn vault at ign.com. They're pretty much the largest fansite for the game. lots of free download too when u get it up and running. Good luck! it's an AWESOME game

Hehe sorry about your misfortune with that game. Trust me when I say everyone is having problems with that game.. BUG CITY!!! Right now in its current state the game is near unplayable. I don't know what the deal is with bioware right now.. they have made some of the best games ever, but they really blew it with NWN 2. I believe that they had their best programmers working on Mass Effect and they had the loser crew trying to get this game working.
I played it for about 2 days hoping that I would get used to the crappy play but I finally just gave up and uninstalled the game and now it's sitting in my pile of never to be played games. Perhaps I will try again in a few months, but as of right now if I were you I would just give up.

Meeting the minimum requirement for a game doesn't always work. If there is an outside options section (which all video games should have) you could adjust the graphics from there. If you can click on things, it could be helpful to adjust the graphics by getting screenshots of the menu screens. Hope this helps and keep on gaming... or letting your husband game.
