Yes. The Moon does in fact exist. Current theory suggests that the Moon was formed when a comet sized object crashed into the Earth on the order of some millions of years ago splashing up debris into space around the Earth forming a ring. The ring coagulated to form what we now view as the Moon. The Moon will not exist for much longer (in the cosmological sense of time, if current theory holds). When the sun is depleted of its hydrogen fuel it will turn into a red giant and expand. It should engulf Mercury and Venus. This will cause the Moon to undergo tremendous graviational force due to the Earth and the Sun pulling it from opposite directions, thus pulling it apart and raining its pieces to the Earth in a meteor shower like event. If I'm still alive during this (which I doubt) I will be sure to take cover in my underground fall-out shelter.
